San Diego Inspirational MathThere is a lot to explore at Pivot Charter School San Diego this year! With the opening of a new resource center space, hybrid learners can gather on-site Monday through Thursday to test hypotheses in science lab, produce digital media, explore career paths, and build strong connections with peers and teachers.

During the first quarter of the supplemental on-site programming, students focus on their core courses, where active participation earns them up to 15% extra credit in their online courses. Each day of the week centers on a unique core academic experience with the option for hands-on instruction:

  • Mondays bring Mr. Erik Lende’s Science Lab, where students apply the scientific method through experiments like isolating copper metal or producing hydrogen gas.
  • Tuesdays feature Inspirational Math, helping students build mathematical literacy through real-life applications.
  • Wednesdays sharpen students’ creative storytelling skills in Fiction Writing class.
  • Thursdays build reading comprehension through Literacy Circles.

Beyond these core courses, electives and clubs are offered simultaneously to complement the curriculum. Students can step outdoors for Sports Club at a local park, practice music in Guitar Club, or collaborate in Journalism to write and design Pivot San Diego’s first student-led digital newsletter.

Community connection grows naturally at the resource center through daily routines and shared experiences. Every morning at the resource center concludes with a schoolwide community circle, giving students and staff a dedicated moment to pause, reflect, and bond. Outside the classroom, field trips to Bates Nut Farm, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and SeaWorld San Diego allow students to experience the world with a curious mind.

Looking ahead, new academic schedules will bring fresh electives, student-led clubs, and targeted teacher support to keep students building on their education through real-world experiences. Later this year, practical career readiness will take center stage with a Virtual Career Fair in December, guest speakers, and a culminating personal finance project where students research a career path of interest to build a realistic daily budget and execution plan.
