Twenty-Eight Students Graduate in First Half of the 2020-21 School Year
Pivot Charter School’s flexible, online curriculum provides students with the opportunity to work hard, learn on their own schedule, and achieve their academic goals.
For 28 students across the four Pivot Charter School sites, their hard work resulted in achieving all of their graduation requirements during the first half of the 2020-21 school year – making them Pivot graduates!
“I am incredibly proud of all our graduates and want to congratulate each of them on a job well done and in an unprecedented era in time,” said Pivot Executive Director Jayna Gaskell. “For a lot of students around the world, this year has been especially difficult. For these Pivot students to stay so focused and on-track is an incredible testament to their grit and determination.”
As part of Pivot’s unique learning program, students are able to complete courses on their own timelines, enabling some students to catch up or even accelerate their education. The individualized student support can also serve as a boost for students who may have struggled in traditional schools. And when our Resource Centers are open, students socialize, participate in clubs, projects, field trips and receive academic support from credentialed teachers on site.
Maria Rios is one such student who graduated in December from Pivot Riverside.
“I was uncomfortable going to a traditional school; there were so many kids and I was bullied. I thought I would never graduate,” Maria said.
In the fall of 2019, Maria began attending Pivot and immediately felt more comfortable with the smaller number of students and the personalized attention she received from teachers.
“At Pivot, I learned more. The teachers had more patience with me, and if I needed something they were always there right away to help me,” said Maria, who now hopes to attend college and pursue a career as a veterinarian. “Students should never give up. I know it’s tough, but just keep on going.”
Maria will be joined by her fellow graduates to commemorate their educational accomplishment by participating in Pivot’s 2020-2021 graduation ceremony in spring 2021. Congratulations graduates!
