At Pivot Charter School San Diego, students are empowered to follow their passions while advancing their education. For 9th grader Kayden Magee-LaMontagne, that meant taking the initiative to launch a catering business, Culinary Commissions, while continuing to grow academically.

Kayden’s love for cooking initially sparked the idea to get their food handler’s license and offer custom and pre-made meals as a business. With Pivot’s flexible structure, Kayden has been able to strike a meaningful balance between school and entrepreneurship.

“Pivot helped me with time management, allowing me to do well on my studies while still focusing on my business,” Kayden shared.

Since enrolling at Pivot, Kayden has grown both academically and personally, gaining confidence in managing schoolwork and overcoming social anxiety. With sights set on building a successful business, Kayden is excited to take next steps and continue building the momentum of Culinary Commissions, one dish at a time.

Pivot is incredibly proud of Kayden’s drive, creativity, and resilience. We can’t wait to see Culinary Commissions flourish!
